Thanks to LEAP, I’m a STAR EMPLOYEE. My orientation about work since the training has been to add value first before considering the “pay”as the more value you create, the more relevant you become.

I am very passionate about leadership, excellence and systems development, as a result, I have had several opportunities to facilitate trainings for students beginning from my university days to my service year (National Youth Service Corp). Often, I would speak on how students can live a life of excellence and take the lead in every area of life.

My name is Daniel Emenahor, a graduate of Biochemistry, Federal University of Technology. I’m a Business and Sales analyst in an insurance firm, where I identify business opportunities and create value for corporate bodies and individuals.

I discovered LEAP Africa after listening to an audio clip of Mrs. Ndidi Nwuneli (Founder, LEAP Africa). She spoke at a youth conference organized by a church, where she shared thought-provoking ideas. Afterwards, I decided to research about her and as you can imagine, I found interesting information about the organization as well. While going through her timeline on twitter, I saw a tweet on a call for application to LEAP’s School2work program. However the registration date had expired at the time but I decided to still apply. Thankfully I was  selected for the training, which started November 2015.

Having gone through a series of unsuccessful job applications three months after NYSC, the training was just the right opportunity for me. I wanted to learn about the values and skills that will position and prepare me for the workplace, particularly because it was important for me to remain relevant in the job market.

The School2Work program changed my perception about life generally. Things I thought I knew sounded real and practical during and after the training. From sessions on self-awareness, emotional intelligence to crafting my personal vision and mission statement, I listened to seasoned facilitators who gave me a clear picture of how to craft my vision and improve my relationships.

I’d say, If I didn’t attend the School2Work training, my effectiveness in my present workplace will be zero. The training equipped me with problem solving skills, which has  helped me as an analyst faced with various challenges on a daily basis. It also polished my  communication skills, built my self-confidence and self-esteem; and these have been immensely beneficial when interacting with managers of various industries.

I’m currently in the process of setting up a social enterprise to raise youth of excellence, who will identify and solve the problems in Nigeria rather than being a part of the problem. The lessons learnt from LEAP are the building blocks for this aspiration.

We live in idea driven economy where success is defined by the ability to turn ideas into value, an economy where what you can offer is more important than the course studied in school. Indeed, LEAP’s School2Work training is the platform to discover and identify that inherent gift that will “leap” you to the place of creating value and building skills.
